Short Film 'Core' Wins Art With Impact's November Mental Health Short Film Competition on Mental Health

Short film about experiencing anxiety and panic is the 30th addition to Art With Impact's OLIVE Film Collection.

Art With Impact (AWI) is excited to congratulate Ashlen Claire for the film 'CORE' which recently became the 30th winning film in AWI's OLIVE Film Collection

Ashlen hails from Canberra and studied at the Victorian College of the Arts (VCA) in Melbourne. Across 2012 and 2013, Ashlen completed two years of photography classes as part of her year twelve diploma, during which she specialized in dance photography, and studio portraits. This stemmed into an exploration of film, where she taught herself how to use simple editing programs and began making short films in her spare time to share with her friends and family via her YouTube channel.

It was at VCA that she took a class entitled "Choreographic Process: Dance on Screen," during which she was tasked with creating a piece of dance film. It was by this that Core was born -- an exploration of the internal struggle and external manifestation of panic and anxiety.  Congratulations to Ashlen whose dynamic work we look forward to viewing!

Art With Impact’s monthly film competition awards one winning filmmaker a $1,000 cash prize for a film — up to five minutes in length and of any genre — that uses mental health as the point of interest. Film topics may either be interpretive of mental health, or address it directly. Winning films are added to AWI’s diverse OLIVE film collection, which is used in educational outreach programs.
